Warning against sale of electrical goods without ISI mark

The General Manager of the District Industries Centre (DIC), Madurai, has warned against the sale of electrical appliances/devices without the mandatory ISI mark.

In a release, he said that as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act ( BIS Act) 1986 and under section 3(1) of Electrical Wires, Cables, Appliances and Protection Devices and Accessories ( Quality Control) order 2003 of Government of India, the following electrical accessories must have the ISI mark.

Electrical immersion water heater, electric iron, electrical stoves, electrical radiators, switches for domestic purpose, tungsten filament lamps, self-ballasted lamp for general lighting services circuit breakers, low voltage fuse for voltages not exceeding 1000V AC or 1500 VDC(Pt1) fuses, high voltage fuses(pt1) and (pt2), low voltage switch gear and control gear (pt2), (pt3), (p4), (pt5), PVC insulated cables (pt1) AC watt hour and VAR-hour Meter class 0.25 and 0.55 The General Managers, DICs, are empowered to make inspection and seize the non ISI marked above said electrical products if any found and produce the same before Law of Court as per G.O. Ms. No 64, Small Industries (SIF) Dept dated 13.09.2004.

In accordance with the Act, the General Manager, District Industries Centre, Madurai, and his team along with the vice-president of Consumer Rights Protection Council inspected seven electrical shops at Y. Othakadai and Melur recently and seized non ISI marked products from two shops.
