In inspections conducted by a team of road transport officials in Theni, Dindigul and Madurai districts, a fine of Rs. 40.83 lakh was collected from 1,457 vehicles for various violations from July to September.
According to an official press release, the team, led by N. Ravichandran, Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement), conducted vehicle checks at Madurai, Natham, Dindigul, Oddanchatram, Palani, Batlagundu, Theni, Sempatti, Vadipatti, Melur and Tirumangalam during the period. Fines were imposed for violations like absence of driving licence, overloading, overspeeding and transporting goods in omni buses. Apart from the fine, a sum of Rs. 12.79 lakh was collected as road tax. The fined vehicles included 63 omni buses, 62 maxi cabs, 169 autorickshaws, 17 earth movers and 31 vehicles operated by educational institutions.
The enforcement personnel also impounded 106 autorickshaws, 89 goods carriers and six tourist vehicles for violations of the Motor Vehicles Act and released them after collecting road tax and fine.
Vehicle checks were conducted at Madurai, Natham, Dindigul, Oddanchatram, Palani, Batlagundu, Theni, Sempatti, Vadipatti, Melur and Tirumangalam
