VCK suspects order for a CBI probe

Demands court-monitored SIT probe into Pollachi sexual abuse case

Viduthalai Chiruthai Katchi president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Wednesday said that the move by the Tamil Nadu government to transfer the Pollachi sexual abuse case to the CBI raised suspicion.

Addressing reporters at the airport, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that the incident had made Tamil Nadu lose face. The decision by the State to transfer the case to the CB-CID and then to the CBI had raised suspicion. “Usually, the government seldom transfers cases to the CBI even after people’s protest. Without anyone seeking transfer of the case, it has been moved to the CBI,” he said.

The VCK demanded a court-monitored probe by a special investigation team into the case. “Such a probe would ensure that the number of accused would not be limited to just four persons,” he said, adding that the party would hold a protest in Chennai on March 15 to press the demand.

Further, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that social media should be regulated to ensure that obscene content was not spread.

Speaking about the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, he said that the Congress-led alliance was sure to win. Over the last five years, only corporates and business houses had grown. “The number of days that the Prime Minister spent on foreign trips is much higher than what he spent in Parliament,” he said. “Mr. Modi coming back to power is a threat to democracy and the Constitution.”
