Unauthorised hoardings and signboards, which appeared citywide in the run-up to Deepavali, were removed on the orders of the district administration on Thursday.

V.Arumugam, Assistant Engineer (Zone 2), who supervised the drive, said over 20 display and advertisement boards were removed between the District Courts complex and Bata showroom. The exercise will continue on Friday when boards put up enroute to Anna Nagar will be dismantled. “Rent has to be paid for putting up hoardings and display boards in public space,” Mr. Arumugam said.
