Two murders in a span of one hour on Sunday night kept the Sellur police on their toes.

In the first incident, P. Hariraja, 25, of Anuman Nagar, Packiyanathapuram, was hacked to death in a land dispute at around 11 p.m.

The police said that the deceased, who was involved in finance business, had a dispute with Mayandi and Sasi after Hariraja’s father, Periyapandi, had bought a piece of land from the duo’s father. The brothers had complained that Periyapandi had cheated their father in the land dealing and were pestering for more money, which Periyapandi had refused to give.

When Hariraja was riding on a motorbike, he was waylaid near the water tank at Aruldaspuram and was hacked to death by the brothers and a few others. The police are on the lookout for the accused.

Within an hour, a history-sheeter, K. Ashok Kumar, 25, was stabbed to death by an armed gang outside his house in Packianathapuram.

The police said that the deceased was an accused in two murder cases along with one Tamil Selvam. Recently, Tamil Selvam had approached Ashok Kumar to settle a dispute with someone.

However, when Ashok Kumar, refused to accompany him claiming that he had given up his criminal activities, Selvam had warned Ashok Kumar’s father that he would not leave Ashok Kumar if he did not help him.

On Sunday midnight, Selvam along with Vijay, Karthik and Sasikumar, went to Ashok Kumar’s house and knocked at the door. When he came out, the gang indiscriminately stabbed him to death.
