Complaints of raping of two minor girls in separate incidents in the city have been reported in the last two days.
In the latest incident reported on Monday, the Tallakulam All Women Police Station personnel arrested an auto-driver, Murugan (40) of Sellur, after he sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl. The police said that the accused had allegedly enticed his neighbour to his house in the afternoon and misbehaved with her. As she raised an alarm and came home running, the neighbours caught the accused and handed him over to the police.
He was booked under the provisions of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
He was sent to judicial custody after being produced before a court.
Another case
In another case reported in Keeraithurai, a 35-year-old man was accused of having sexually exploited his 15-year-old daughter for the last three months.
Despite his wife’s warning, the man continued to indulge in the crime by way of threatening the family members.
The girl on Sunday had told about the incident to his relatives, following which a few of them tried to set the accused on fire. However, he escaped from the scene.
The All Women Police Station, Town, has registered a case under POCSO Act and are on the lookout for the accused.
