Two killed in accident


Two siblings were killed and four others injured when a bus collided with a mini lorry near Panagudi in the district on Sunday.

The deceased – Rajendran, 46, and Bhaskar, 40, – were travelling in the mini lorry when the private bus, going from Chennai to Nagercoil, hit it. The duo, who were in the business of making panthals, were going to Tirunelveli.

It is said that the bus driver, in order to avert collision with a two-wheeler, veered the vehicle away and lost control. The bus ran over the median, entered the other side of the road and hit the mini lorry on the four-way road at Thandaiyarkulam junction.

The bus driver, Manivel, and three other passengers were injured. Police from Panagudi station and Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Valliyur rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operation. The injured were admitted to a hospital.
