Aruppukottai

In a case of car race, an SUV and a car, driven by two friends, hit each other and one of the vehicles fell into a drainage channel at Aruppukottai in the small hours of Sunday.

The police identified them as V. Prasanna Venkatesh, 27, and Karthik, 29, from Coimbatore.

The police said that the duo had driven two different vehicles with one person accompanying each in the vehicles. After having drunk, the friends went on a race on the Madurai-Aruppukottai highway in the dead of night. Noticing the police conducting vehicle checking on the by-pass road, the duo got into Palayampatti road.

Though the police tried to chase them, they raced on the road and eventually hit one another near the new bus stand. The car fell into the drainage channel.

A police said that the police team on vehicle check was fortunate enough as it escaped getting hit by the duo. The police have booked both of them for drunk driving.
