Varadhamanadhi dam overflowing near Palani in Dindigul district on Friday.

On Friday, the Varadhamanadhi dam here, reached its full capacity of 110.90 mcft. Continuous rains in the catchment areas of the dam, resulted in an increased inflow and the reservoir reached its maximum level of 66.47 feet. Following this, the quantum of release from the dam was stepped up to 314 cusecs.

A few days ago, Minister for Forests, C. Srinivasan and Collector M. Vijayalakshmi, had released water from the Palar Porundhalar and Vradhmanadhi dams for irrigation of first crop in Palani taluk.

As there’s an increased outflow, people living along the banks of the river have been given warning not to step into the river.

Similarly, Marudhanadhi dam near Ayyampalayam in Batlagundu, also reached its full storage capacity on Friday and the outflow has been increased from 70 cusecs to 120 cusecs.
