Sky-watchers observer the moon near Mariamman Teppakulam in Madurai on Saturday.

Mariamman Teppakulam was studded with astronomy enthusiasts peering into telescopes on the occasion of International Observe the Moon Night, (InOMN) here on Saturday.

People across age groups enthusiastically took part in the sky-viewing experience despite light showers prior to the event. International Observe the Moon Night is observed all over the world every year to encourage observation, appreciation and understanding of the moon. This is the fourth edition of the event conducted by Galileo Science Centre, Madurai.

A. Sathyamanickam, director, Galileo Science Centre, said like the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Indian Space Research Organisation too should conduct outreach programmes so that more youngsters have accessibility to scientific knowledge and the country’s contribution to outer space.
