One of the coaches of Tiruchendur-Tirunelveli Passenger Train derailed at Tirunelveli Junction on Saturday. However, it did not affect traffic.

Sources in the Tirunelveli Railway Junction said the passenger train was taken to the pit line for maintenance of coaches on reaching Tirunelveli Railway Junction at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday. Even as the coaches were being taken to the pit line, one of the coaches derailed.

The railway personnel, led by Station Manager Sankaranarayanan, rushed the crane to the spot to put the derailed coach back on the track.

An investigation has been ordered to identify the alleged “technical snag” that led to the derailment.
