MADURAI
Employees of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) associated with All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) staged a demonstration near TNSTC Madurai’s headquarters here on Monday demanding Deepavali bonus of 25 % of the salary for all the employees.
Arguing that TNSTC was bound to provide 25 % of salary as Deepavali bonus as per the existing rules and regulations, M. Nanda Singh, State deputy general secretary of AITUC’s transport workers wing, said that the management of TNSTC, however, had maintained silence on the issue this year until now.
“Ideally, the management calls the trade unions for a talk on the bonus every year. They were supposed to release an advance of Deepavali bonus one month ahead of the festival. That has also not been done this year,” he said.
The employees, who took part in the demonstration, condemned TNSTC management for not providing educational advance of ₹ 5,000 paid to eligible employees between the months of July and August to meet the expenses of children’s education.
Other issues highlighted by employees included the non-approval of loans from Employees Provident Fund, uncertainty over regularisation of employment of drivers and conductors engaged on daily wages, and non-payment of allowances for stitching of uniforms.
