SP P. Ve. Arunshakthikumar on Sunday said that tight security would be arranged ahead of Vinayaka Chathurthi.

Addressing reporters, he said that organisers should seek permission from the District Revenue Officer through a single-window system for keeping the idols for worship. The police would issue a no-objection certificate based on the history of their conduct.

He said that permission has been sought by people in various areas on different dates for the idol immersion — Tenkasi on September 3, Kadayanallur on September 4, Nanguneri, Kalakkad and Valliyoor on September 7 and 8. Based on this, security would be deployed as necessary, he added.

A discussion on the security arrangements at Shencottai was held in the presence of the Revenue Divisional Officer. Additional security has been deployed in the area following communal clashes during Vinayaka Chathurthi procession last year. A decision regarding whether Section 144 of the CrPC would be imposed would be taken after discussion with the district administration, he said.

He said that security and surveillance have been stepped up in the district, and activities of miscreants were being monitored.

The CISF had made adequate security arrangements at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Station, ISRO Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri and INS Kattabomman, he said.
