Three killed in accidents

Three persons were killed in two road accidents near Ettaiyapuram on Saturday.

The police said a group of devotees from Panrutti in Cuddalore district were coming in a car to offer special prayers at Lord Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur.

When they were crossing Keezha Eeraal on Saturday morning, the car hit from behind a lorry in which car driver A. Franklin, 32, and K. Viji alias Nandakumar of Panikkankuppam near Panrutti were killed on the spot while R. Vaidhyanathan, 48, S. Balu, 36, A. Raj, 36, N. Choudhry, 28, R. Ramesh, 40 and R. Senthilkumar, 35, sustained injuries.

While the bodies were sent to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital for post mortem, the injured were admitted to the same hospital. The Ettaiyapuram police have registered a case.

In another accident, farmer Thirumoorthy, 55, of Sinthalakkarai was killed when a jeep hit his moped at Sinthalakkarai intersection. The Ettaiyapuram police have picked up jeep driver Annamalai, 63, of Chinnakollapatti in Salem district.
