Parents of 20-year old visually impaired M. Tamilvalavan petitioned Collector T. G. Vinay, seeking reasons for their son’s disqualification for the post of panchayat clerk in their village Periya Oorseri near Alanganallur, here on Monday.
Mr. Tamilvalavan who finished his undergraduate degree in Tamil at the American College in 2018 said that the first time he received a notification regarding a vacancy for the post was on March 27, 2018. His father I. Malaisamy said that the vacancy denoted a reservation for those with visual impairment. “As soon as we got to know, we applied for the post and my son was called for an interview,” he said.
Mr. Tamilselvan said that he attended the interview and it went fairly well. “The officials in my block said that we would receive a notification regarding the appointment post elections in 2019. The post in my village is still vacant but other such positions in nearby villages have been filled,” he said. “I wanted to do my post graduation in Tamil but put it on hold due to this,” he says.
Additional Director Panchayat A. Chelladurai said that concerned officials have been asked to provide a response regarding the matter at the earliest.
