The Hindu joined the golden jubilee celebration with railway officials and passengers of Pandiyan Superfast Express in the city on Tuesday.

In association with Fortune Pandiyan Hotel, The Hindu had organised a selfie booth outside platform one.

The booth became a great hit with its unique design that featured the vintage front page of October 1, 1969, edition of the national newspaper to mark the first run of Pandiyan Express on the same day.

Scores of passengers, who could easily identify the newspaper with their train journeys, enthusiastically took selfies/photographs standing at the booth.

Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan cut a cake presented by Fortune Pandiyan Hotel in the presence of Divisional Railway Manager V.R. Lenin and Additional DRM O.P. Shaw and Senior Divisional Commerical Manager Bharat Kumar.

“Pandiyan Express has been consistently serving the passengers all these years. Its contribution to connectivity is phenomenal and that is why our Managing Director P.C.M. Santhanam decided to be part of its golden jubilee celebration,” said the hotel Director, G. Vasudevan.

“We also share the name with the express that was the first train to originate from Madurai. Our hotel has been a pioneer in tourism sector in the Temple City,” said Dr. Vasudevan.
