Tension gripped Bodi near here on Thursday as supporters of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and V.K. Sasikala clashed with each other.

When the supporters of AIADMK town secretary V. Balamurugan took out a ‘victory procession’ in support of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, they raised slogans against Mr. Panneerselvam. The irked supporters of Mr. Panneerselvam raised slogans against their rivals.

When the confrontation snowballed into a clash, members of the rival gang pelted stones on Mr. Panneerselvam’s supporters and ransacked the office of the Bodi MLA, damaging furniture. They also tore two banners erected in front of the office.

In turn, the supporters of Mr. Panneerselvam pelted stones on them and on the house of the Bodi town secretary. A car used by him was also damaged in the incident. A posse of police personnel were deployed in the town. The situation was under control, said the police.

Meanwhile, the supporters of OPS blocked the main road in Bodi, demanding action against the rival group.

Meanwhile, an unidentified gang damaged a banner erected in support of Mr. Panneerselvam at Palanichettipatti.

The police are taking steps to remove all the banners erected by political parties at Palanichettipatti.
