MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday asked why the State government did not take a policy decision to ensure the permanent closure of Sterlite Copper plant here.

Addressing reporters, he said if a policy decision had been taken, the case could not have been taken up by the National Green Tribunal. “If the government fails to do this, the needle of suspicion would point to Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his cabinet,” he said.

He said he had faith in the apex court bench that was hearing the case. Speaking about the 10% reservation to the economically backward in the General Category, he said his party was committed to social justice put forth by the Dravidian movement. The reservation went against its tenets and other parties and organisations should protest against the move, he added.
