Surveillance team seizes ₹ 19.55 lakh

TIRUNELVELI

A Static Surveillance Team deployed in Alangulam to curb poll code violations seized ₹ 19.55 lakh taken on a car.

When the Static Surveillance Team (SST), headed by tahsildar Gomathi Sankaranarayanan, was conducting a vehicle check at Aththiyooththu intersection near Alangulam on Monday afternoon as the poll model code of conduct is in force, the officials intercepted a car proceeding from Thoothukudi to Shencottai.

As the SST recovered ₹ 19.95 lakh from one Sankar, who was travelling in the car, he was asked to produce acceptable documents for taking the huge amount with him. Though he reportedly told the officials that he was taking the money for the construction of house at Shencottai after drawing it from a bank in Thoothukudi, Mr. Sankar could not produce the documents immediately.

Subsequently, the money was seized.

“He has been asked to produce the documents showing the withdrawal of money from the bank. If he can produce acceptable documents, the money will be returned,” said Kandappan, tahsildar, Alangulam.
