“An exploratory study and research will be taken up by the State Archaeological Department on prehistoric dolmens in Pethuparai and the ruins of a later Pandya fort found in Adukkam recently on the Kodaikanal hills,” said Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture, Ma. Foi. K. Pandiarajan here on Saturday.

He added that the government is taking steps to construct an open-air museum in Keeladi. “Keeladi should be seen as the base for Indian civilization and hence is part of Indian history and culture,” he said.

“So far, the State Archaeological Department has undertaken 70 excavations across 40 places. Along with the sixth phase of excavation at Keeladi, we have also sought permission to continue excavations at Azhagankulam, Adichanallur and Kodumanal. Exploratory studies will also be taken up along the banks of the Thamirabharani,” said the Minister. He said that the govt. has taken steps to renovate 12 forts at a cost of ₹24 crore. “The Vellore fort is being renovated at a cost of ₹50 crore under Smart Cities Project,” he said.
