TIRUNELVELI

The Maanur police have arrested a labourer for allegedly beating his drunkard father to death after he created trouble during the youth’s betrothal.

Police said farmer Thangaraj (47) of Venkateswarapuram and his relatives had gone to Azhagiyapandiapuram on September 12 for the betrothal of his son Sudalaimani (21), a labourer.

As Thangaraj picked up an argument with Sudalaimani under the influence of alcohol even as the betrothal was going on, the son asked his father to be calm till the engagement was over.

As the drunkard continued to create ruckus during the function, an agitated Sudalaimani allegedly beat his father with a club. As Thangaraj sustained injuries, he was admitted to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital where he died on Sunday night.

Subsequently, the Manur police arrested Sudalaimani on Monday.
