Flagging off five new buses to different destinations, including Coimbatore and Mettupalayam, here on Friday, Dairy Minister K.T. Rajendhra Balaji said that 20 more new buses would be operated in the district.

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) had proposed to operate the new buses on Sivakasi-Coimbatore, Rajapalayam-Mettupalayam, Srivilliputtur-Madurai-Shencottai among other destinations.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Balaji said that the district had been witnessing aplenty of development works. “Whatever was planned by our late leader Jayalalithaa was being executed now by the government headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami” he noted.

The district, which was known for scarce drinking water would soon become a thing of the past. The number of major integrated water projects to draw water from Tamirabharani and Mukoodal was expected to solve the problems.

The residents of Rajapalayam, Srivilliputtur and Watrap can soon have perennial drinking water with the project getting implemented at a whopping cost of ₹ 404.04 crore. He also said that the preliminary survey was completed with regard to water project planned for municipalities covering Aruppukottai, Sattur and parts of Virudhunagar at an estimated cost of ₹ 450 crore.

The TNSTC MD Senathipathi, GM Mahendrakumar, senior officials from the revenue departments participated.
