A headmaster of a Panchayat Union Middle School has been suspended on the charge of sexual harassment, according to sources in the Education Department here on Wednesday.

The suspended headmaster was Ravichandran of Panchayat Union Middle School at Kamankallur.

Acting on complaints lodged by parents of a section of girl students, Collector N. Venkatachalam ordered a departmental enquiry on November 3.

They said that the headmaster often harassed several girl students in the school. The Collector also advised the District Elementary Education Officer Ganesan to conduct a spot enquiry.

The DEEO submitted a detailed report to the Collector after enquiring girls in different classes and teachers and other staff in the school.

Later, the Collector recommended the suspension of the headmaster on the basis of the report and also confessional statements given by seven girl students. The DEEO served the suspension order to him.
