The district administration has begun sealing of granite blocks illegally quarried and stocked on government land in the district.

After the visit of Special Officer John Louis, who is probing the multi-crore granite scam, earlier in the day, the process of sealing began by wrapping of tapes around the granite blocks. The officials painted “seized by DC/MDU” (District Collector, Madurai) on the blocks.

Official sources said that the sealing activity has started after no individual or company came forward to claim the ownership of the quarried granite blocks.

The officials have identified around 12,274 blocks in 14 places in Keezhavalavu.
