As the sea remained rough in Kanniyakumari district, tourists were not allowed to bathe in most of coastal areas across the district on Sunday.

Home Guard personnel were deployed at various places, including the Triveni Sangamam, and people were not allowed to go into the sea. Tourists, who had come in large numbers, were disappointed.

The sea, which had been turbulent over the last few weeks, was rough since Sunday morning. Earlier, an unidentified elderly man, who seemed to hail from north India, was found dead near Vavathurai fishing hamlet.

The man, who was clad in a white shirt and black pants, had bruises all over his body, suspected to be caused by abrasion of rocks. The Coastal Security Group is investigating his identity and the cause of his death.
