Stating that the transformation to make India free from corruption should involve children, M. Suresh, Deputy General Manager (Vigilance), NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited (NTPL), appealed to the children to dream and commit themselves to a corruption-free India.
Speaking at the prize distribution function for the painting contest for school children, organised jointly by Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited (NLCIL) and The Hindu Group here on Saturday, he said that it was the reason his organisation was reaching out to children to inculcate in them the values of honesty and integrity.
The painting contest was organised as part of the Vigilance Awareness Week, observed from October 30 to November 4 this year.
N. Sulaiman, former Regional Assistant Director with Department of Arts and Culture in Tamil Nadu, who was the chief guest, stressed the need for children to learn an art form, which, he said, would help in their holistic development.
More than 600 children from schools in Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Theni and Dindigul districts took part in the function.
S. Manisha from P.S.Y. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Adaikappan from Mahatma Montessori Matriculation Higher Secondary School and A. Manikanda Prabhu from Rajan Matriculation Higher Secondary School won the top three prizes in junior category, which included students from Class 3 to 6.
K.R. Thrishika from Rajan Matriculation Higher Secondary School, M. Mohammed Halith from Al-Ameen Higher Secondary School and J. Asthika from Ram Jeyam Vidhya Mandir Higher Secondary School (Theni district) won the top three prizes in senior category (Class 7 to Class 10).
The event was held at St. Michaels Matriculation Higher Secondary School here. Everyone who attended the function took a pledge to commit themselves to uphold integrity in all walks of life and seldom offer or take bribes.
