Sasi Perumal’s death was not natural: Vaiko

The death of Sasi Perumal, an anti-liquor activist, in Unnamalaikkadai in Kanyakumari district on Friday was not natural as there was profuse bleeding caused by “forced removal” from the mobile phone tower by tying a rope around him, said Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko.

In a statement issued here, Mr. Vaiko blamed the AIADMK government for the death and sought an enquiry into the death by a sitting High Court Judge. The post-mortem of his body should be performed in the presence of a magistrate and the procedure videographed.

Introduction of total prohibition by closing all liquor shops in the State would be the only tribute to Sasi Perumal, Mr. Vaiko said, and added that the MDMK and other political parties had called for a bandh in Kanyakumari district on Saturday to condemn the State government for the death. If the government did not heed the public demand for total prohibition, people, especially women, would themselves remove all IMFL retail shops.
