A private home run in Thondaimanpatti near here was sealed by officials on Thursday after the director of the home and an employee were held for sexually abusing a 10-year-old inmate.

Officials from the police, education and revenue departments, along with those from child protection unit, were present during the sealing process. A senior official of the revenue department said that the campus consisted of a children’s home, a primary and nursery school and a hospice for the elderly.

Child Welfare Committee chairman M. Vijayasaravanan said that separate boys and girls homes were sealed. “The Foundation has also not renewed a licence issued by the School Education department to run its primary and nursery school. A meeting will be held with parents tomorrow to ensure that the students studying there are shifted to nearby schools with ease,” he said.

A revenue official added that three old patients who were admitted at the hospice would be shifted on Friday.

Russ Foundation director M. Berlin Jose, 54, and Chairperson John Prabakar, 63, were arrested under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, by the Chathirapatti police on Thursday.
