Though it did not hinder the movement of trains, it could have been dangerous, had the slab been placed on the track.
The Government Railway Police registered a case under section 150 of the Railways Act.
On the instruction of the Division Security Commissioner, RPF, Madurai Division, V. Jegannathan, a three-member special team was formed under P. Selvaraj, SI., RPF, Dindigul, including R. Balasubramanian, Assistant SI, Palani, and constables Zakir Hussain and S. Gopalakrishnan.
On Sunday, the team conducted investigations with Prabhu (a) Prabhakaran, Chinnadurai and Malayalam of Kothamangalam village on suspicion, when they confessed to have placed the slab inside the track.
The RPF said that the men had attempted to cross the track on a two-wheeler during night and had used the slab for the purpose. However, they did not remove it after crossing.
The men were arrested by the Government Railway Police, produced before the Palani Judicial Magistrate and have been remanded in the Palani sub-jail.
