Revenue staff stage protest

Members of Tamil Nadu Revenue Officials’ Association staged a walkout from their offices for the second consecutive day here on Friday, pressing for their demands.

Among their 18-point demands, the officials want 40 per cent of the posts lying vacant to be filled at the earliest. since they were forced to cope with a lot of workload. The officials staged a walkout from the offices at 4.45 p.m. instead of leaving at the usual time of 5.45 p.m., said district president V. Pandi.

“There have also been instances of revenue officials dying on duty while stopping rice or sand smuggling and we have demanded that their family should be given a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh,” said M.P. Murugaian, district secretary.
