Following the cyclone warning in Tamil Nadu, fishermen who had gone for fishing in the deep sea have been asked to return soon.
The fishermen have been asked to keep their boats, fishing nets and other gear safely.
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that the low-pressure system over the equatorial Indian Ocean and south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclone and may move towards north Tamil Nadu coast around April 30.
Meanwhile, fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas of east equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining south-east and central parts of south Bay of Bengal on Thursday and Friday. They have been asked to stay off south-west Bay of Bengal, adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean and off coasts of Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh as the system intensifies from April 27 to 30.
Following the warning, fishermen across the district are being warned through boards put up at fish landing centres. Members of fishermen cooperative societies, village leaders, priests, and residents of fishing hamlets have been informed. The information has being sent through VHF communication systems, said Fisheries Department officials.
