A long tussle between a group of residents and a private school functioning in suburban A. Kosakulam was resolved, thanks to timely intervention by the police, on Thursday.
The Sivasami Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association had submitted petitions to Collector L. Subramanian, Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav and Superintendent of Police Vijayendra S. Bidari with a complaint that more than 50 buses of the school passing through the residential area not only posed threat to residents but also caused pollution.
On many occasions, the crew found it difficult to negotiate the narrow lanesand had harrowing experience while passing the stretch, said sangam president M.K. Haja Najumudeen and secretary M. Murugan.
Though an alternative route, which was broad and had access to the school gate, was suggested to the school authorities, they did not evince interest in it. As there was no sign of any consensus on the issue, a group of residents allegedly blocked the school buses on Thursday morning as a mark of protest. The Koodal Pudur police arrived on the scene and assured to hold talks.
Later, in the presence of senior police officers, the school authorities and office-bearers of the association held talks. The school authorities agreed to ply their buses on the alternative route on a trial basis from Friday. The police assured to deploy traffic police during peak hours to regulate vehicular movement in the area.
