In a relief to sidelined AIADMK leader T. T. V Dhinakaran, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday extended the interim stay of FIR proceedings initiated against him and actor Senthil by the Tiruchi police till October 23.
Mr. Dhinakaran had filed a petition for quashing the FIR proceedings initiated against him by the Tiruchi police following a complaint lodged by Tiruchi MP P. Kumar. Mr Kumar had alleged that actor Senthil, in a TV interview, had used derogatory language and instigated the supporters of Mr. Dhinakaran against him.
Taking up the petition filed for quashing the FIR for hearing, Justice S. S. Sundar extended the interim stay till October 23. The bench had already granted a stay of the FIR proceedings after Mr. Senthil filed a petition stating that Tiruchi police had no jurisdiction in the matter and the complaint was registered with a political motive.
Mr. Senthil had alleged that the police had not conducted any preliminary enquiry and had straightaway registered a case. He further stated that the speech did not attract Section 153 A (promoting enmity between groups), Section 294 b (reciting obscene words in public), Section 506 (criminal Intimidation) and Section 109 (abetment of crime) of the Indian Penal Code under which the case was booked.
