Rain, accompanied by strong winds, lashed Kanniyakumari district from Sunday night and continued till Monday afternoon.
Many roads, including Kottar Road, Chettikulam Road and WCC Road, in Nagercoil town were flooded. Overhead electric wires were snapped in many places, but they were set right by TANGEDCO employees then and there.
Nagercoil, Colachel, Boothapandi, Rajakkamangalam, Surulode, Kulasekaram, Arumanai, Mullanginavilai, Kozhiporvilai, Eraniel, Mylaudi and Kottaram experienced heavy rain.The maximum rainfall of 64.8 mm was recorded in areas near the Western Ghats.Due to the dark clouds hovering over Kanniyakumari, tourists returned disappointed as they were unable to witness the sunrise.
Poompuhar Shipping Corporation that operates ferry services to Vivakanandar memorial rock suspended the service for a few hours in the morning due to strong winds.
As the catchment areas received good rain, water level in Pechiparai increased to 14.15 feet, with an inflow of 94 cusecs.
