Students of Puspalata School bag first prize in ‘Sciencebition’

Students of Puspalata Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai, won the first prize in the 3-day ‘Sciencebition’ that concluded here on Sunday.

FIITJEE in association with ‘ The Hindu in School’ hosted the Sciencebition, an inter-school science expo for the first time here between from January 5. The three-day event had over 70 projects exhibited by the students from 10 leading schools of Tirunelveli and around. Nearly 140 students from Class 5 to 11 took this opportunity to display their technical prowess with innovative projects like AgroRobo, electric load control system using mobile phone, smart home etc.

Dr. Gunasekaran from Anna University who judged the event and selected the winners said the student’s enthusiasm and the usefulness of their projects to society was appreciable.

In the valediction, Navram Kumar, District Science Officer, handed over the prizes and motivated the students to think beyond the books and study hard for achieving success in life.

The first prize for the best exhibit was bagged by the team of Abhishek, Mohammed Aashife, Francis Selvaraj Pandian and Jones Abi from Pushpalatha Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai. The second prize went to Gayathri Devi and Vaishnavi of Jayendra Golden Jubilee Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sankar Nagar and the third prize to Arvind Madesh and Siddhanth of Vedic Vidyashram, Thatchanallur.

Janice of Rosemary Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai won the consolation prize and the Best supporting school prize was also awarded to Rosemary Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai.

According to Suresh Gurunathan, General Manager – Admissions, more than 1,100 students from different schools in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari districts visited the exhibition, which was possible only due to the support of school managements, teachers and parents.

He further explained the need for taking part in competitive events, exams and encouraged students of Tirunelveli to register and take part in FIITJEE’s national-level admission, scholarship test to be held on February 4 (Sunday) at St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai.

Chief Executive Officer (Residential Projects), FIITJEE, Abhishek Agrawal, explained to the students the need for setting goals early in life and to start working towards achieving them to succeed in the competitive world.

As part of Sciencebition, a Science Quiz was conducted and more than 50 students took part in it and won prizes.

‘Dhisai’ Career counselling session explainining the various options available to students in the fields of engineering and medicine was conducted and FIITJEE’s programmes for IITJEE, engineering, NEET, medical preparation, admission to universities in the United States were also mentioned.
