Public may lodge complaints about excess fare

November 02, 2013 12:09 pm | Updated 12:09 pm IST - MADURAI:

The Transport Department has asked the public to make complaints over phone if private transport operators collect excess fare.

Deputy Transport Commissioner (Madurai) P. Muruganandam has stated in a communiqué that the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation had been operating additional bus services to clear extra rush of passengers heading home for Deepavali across the State.

It had been reported that omni bus operators were fleecing the public by collecting exorbitant fares.

Special squads had been formed to check this practice following a High Court directive.

A redressal committee had been constituted with the Deputy Commissioner as chairman and RTOs K. Kalyankumar – Madurai Central (94437 38069), S.K.M. Sivakumaran – Enforcement (93621 66066), and Motor Vehicle Inspectors M. Maripandi (98421 18948), J. Sheik Mohammed (94865 76203) and M. Viswanathan (94435-65378) as members. Public may either lodge complaints over phone on 0452-2567835 or e-mail to rtotn64@nic.in.

The RTO staff would be available round the clock at the Madurai Central RTO until November 5.
