Information and Publicity Minister Kadambur C. Raju on Thursday said that various long-standing demands of Ottapidaram residents would be fulfilled after the election.

He told reporters at the airport here that a new court and fire station would be set up. “The government has recommended setting up of a court in Ottapidaram. The demand for a check dam across Kombadi channel is under consideration of the government,” he said.

“About 4,500 acres for the Madurai-Thoothukudi industrial corridor would be acquired. A textile park at Puthiamputhur, an IT park and an ESI hospital would be set up, he said.

The minister, along with party cadre, welcomed the candidate for Ottapidaram (SC) constituency P. Mohan.

Responding to queries about whether the demand for changing the candidate by Ottapidaram union young women’s wing secretary Jayalalitha would be a setback to the party, he said, “the AIADMK is a large organisation and many people want to contest the election. They all would come together and work for the victory.”

Mr. Raju said that the party would prove that Ottapidaram is a bastion of the AIADMK. “We will win by a margin of 50,000 votes or more,” he said.

He said that seven ministers and alliance party leaders would be participating in a meeting to be held in Pudukottai soon.
