The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau to look into the elephant deaths at Meghamalai Wildlife Division and Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, alleged to have been caused due to electrocution.

A Division Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and N. Sathish Kumar, hearing a PIL pettition, directed the Bureau to probe the alleged deaths of elephants in the two forest divisions.

The High Court directed Tangedco and wildlife wardens concerned to file reports after investigating and ascertaining if the deaths were due to electrocution.
