After two fishermen went missing off the Indian coast, a habeas corpus petition was filed before Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday, seeking a direction to search their whereabouts.

The petitioner, Arockiadasan of Ramanathapuram district organiser of Tamil Nadu Meenavar Urimai Padukappu Iyakkam, said that four fishermen - Sinthas, Stephen, Menon and Antony - went missing on July 4. While Stephen and Antony were rescued by fishermen in a search operation, the whereabouts of Sinthas and Menon were not known yet, the petitioner said and sought a direction to the authorities to find out their whereabouts.

A Division Bench of Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and B. Pugalendhi sought a status report in the case and adjourned the hearing.
