MADURAI

A petition filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday sought permission to conduct a public meeting in Thanjavur to condemn remarks made against Raja Raja Cholan.

The petitioner, B. Jaisatheesh of Thanjavur, organiser of Raja Raja Cholan Ezhuchi Peravai, said that the police had denied permission for a public meeting, to condemn the remarks made against the Chola king, without citing any reason.

The rejection was made without any application of mind and was unwarranted and liable to be set aside, the petitioner said. He sought permission to conduct the event at Thilagar Thidal in Thanjavur.

Hearing the petition, Justice V. Bharathidasan sought a counter from the State and adjourned the hearing till July 16.
