June 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - MADURAI:

A physically challenged lawyer has filed a public interest litigation petition in the Madras High Court Bench here seeking a direction to State government as well as High Court authorities to either construct a ramp or install an elevator to the the first and second floors of the buildings on the District Court campus here.

When the case filed by R. Ramasamy came up for hearing before a Division Bench of Justices A. Selvam and V.S. Ravi on Tuesday, it ordered notice to the High Court’s Registrar General, Principal District and Sessions Judge here and Public Works Department officials.

The petitioner claimed that the court buildings had a ramp only on the ground floor.

The petitioner contended that hundreds of physically challenged lawyers, court staff and litigants who visited the court campus on a daily basis had to suffer a lot due to the absence of ramps and elevators.
