A public interest litigation petition filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday sought a direction for monitoring the election to the Kallar Kalvi Kazhagam board of management by a retired High Court Judge.
S. Masanam of Madurai, in his petition, sought a direction to appoint a former judge of the High Court as an administrator to conduct election to the Kallar Kalvi Kazhagam board of management for the period 2018-21.
Masanam, a member and former president of the Kallar Kalvi Kazhagam, said that a notification had been issued to convene a general body meeting on November 25 to discuss subject matters that included audit report, with the tenure of the committee coming to an end on November 29.
He said that there was also a proposal to elect a new executive committee without following the bylaws of the society.
He alleged that the current committee, which had assumed office in 2015, had indulged in illegal means to appoint staff to the Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar College which is run by the society. In a similar situation in 2013, a former High Court Judge was appointed to administer the election to the society, he added.
A Division Bench of Justices K. K. Sasidharan and P. D. Audikesavalu directed notice to Kallar Kalvi Kazhagam and adjourned the case to November 20.
