Plea for free house sites

October 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:22 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Residents of Chermedu near Kallidaikurichi in the district submitted a petition at the Collectorate here on Friday seeking free house sites.

The petitioners said revenue officials had visited Chermedu area where people belonging to Arunthathiyar community had been living on government poramboke land for the past several years and assured in 2012 that they would give free house site patta to them. However, an individual from Kallidaikurichi had started occupying a portion of the land.

“When we filed a complaint with the police, no action was taken against the encroacher. Hence, the Collector should order his subordinates to remove the encroachments and give free house sites at Chermedu,” said U. Vijayan, a petitioner.
