Five days after the father of M. Prabhu, one of the two persons who died in an alleged police encounter near Manamadurai, moved the Madras High Court Bench in Madurai seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, the father of M Bharathi, the other victim, also filed a similar plea in the court.

S. Muthupandian, father of Bharathi, filed a writ petition in the court on Wednesday stating that his son and Prabhu were shot dead at point blank range by the police for the sole reason that they were the accused in the murder of a Sub-Inspector of Police.

Stating that he does not have faith in the State police investigation, Mr Muthupandian insisted that a CBI inquiry should be ordered to conduct a proper investigation.

Both the parents also wanted the State Government to pay adequate compensation to their families.
