Plea against opening of Tasmac bar

A Division Bench of Justices K.K. Sasidharan and P.D. Audikesavalu of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the Madurai Collector to ascertain if a proposed Tasmac shop on South Veli Street was in proximity to schools, hospitals and temples.

P. Kannan of Madurai, in his public interest litigation petition, claimed that the proposal to open a Tasmac shop on South Veli Street was shocking as the location was close to residential areas, temples, schools and hospitals. He sought a direction against opening of the liquor outlet.
