PIL wants AIIMS in Madurai

May 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - MADURAI:

The Madras High Court Bench here on Wednesday sought the reply of the Centre and the State to a public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking a direction to them to establish All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here since it was the most appropriate location to cater to patients from all the southern districts apart from those hailing from Kerala.

A Division Bench of Justices T.S. Sivagnanam and G. Chockalingam issued notices to the Union Health Ministry and State Health Secretary and adjourned the hearing after the conclusion of the summer vacation for the court on May 30. The PIL petition was filed by K.K. Ramesh, Managing Trustee of Tamil Nadu Centre for Public Interest Litigation, a private organisation based here.
