The Nagercoil All Women Police have arrested two youths, including a 32-year-old physically challenged man, for allegedly sexually abusing and raping a 17-year-old college student from a village near here on Wednesday.

While the differently abled youth, who lost his left hand in a suicide attempt, sexually abused the girl, his friend raped her at a secluded place near Koodankulam five days ago.

Police said the girl came in contact with the physically challenged Yesunesan, 32, of Aavaraikulam in Tirunelveli district a month ago through a local television programme that conducts ‘Viewers’ Choice’ programme.

When she started speaking with him over the phone, Yesunesan concealed the fact that his wife had left him following frequent domestic quarrels and he had lost his left hand in the suicide attempt.

“After a month-long texting, Yesunesan managed to develop a relationship with the girl over the phone. When he wanted to meet her, Yesunesan revealed that he was a differently-abled person. However, the girl did not reject him citing his disability,” a police officer said.

When she met him at Thovalai five days ago, Yesunesan was accompanied by his friend Aadish, 23, also from Aavaraikulam. As the girl confronted Yesunesan for having brought his friend, he pacified her saying that he had to bring him as he could not ride the bike.

“After that, the duo took her to a secluded place near Koodankulam on the bike, where Yesunesan sexually abused her. Then his friend Aadish raped her even as Yesunesan was witnessing it. After dropping the victim in the nearby bus-stop, he stopped speaking with her. Five days after the assault, the girl filed a complaint with Nagercoil All Women Police,” the police officer said.

The duo has been booked under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and arrested. The girl has been sent to the Government Medical College Hospital at Aasaripallam for medical examination.
