Urging the Central and State governments to ban online sale of drugs, over 1,400 pharmacies and wholesale drug and medical appliances sellers in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts downed shutters on Wednesday.
The only solace was ‘Amma Pharmacies’ being run by the State government and the medical shops attached to the hospitals, where the public could buy medicines they required.

Allowing online sale of medicines would encourage drug trafficking, said A.P. Kumar, president of Kanyakumari District Chemists and Druggists’ Association, in Nagercoil on Wednesday.
Presiding over an agitation staged in front of the Collectorate, condemning the online sale of drugs, Mr. Kumar said that over 800 chemists and druggists, including 250 distributors, downed shutters across the district.
