The system of disbursing pension through Electronic Clearance Services (ECS) will be extended to Usilampatti and Vadipatti divisions soon, and to Melur division next month, Madurai Collector Anshul Mishra said on Thursday.

It was in place for Madurai North, Madurai South, Peraiyur and Tirumangalam divisions earlier. He asked the bankers to identify beneficiaries of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and to take steps to open bank accounts for beneficiaries of the scheme in the 250 panchayats, to facilitate crediting of their wages.

As many as 873 students were given education loans at a camp conducted on October 13. Steps should be taken to distribute loans to the remaining students, the Collector said.

He also requested the banks to provide all possible assistance for the ‘Mamadurai potruvom’ (hail Madurai) festival scheduled for February.

K. N. Subramanian, Manager of district Lead Bank, A.J. George, Assistant General Manager of Reserve Bank of India, among others, were present.
