NAGERCOIL

Police have arrested a person who allegedly murdered a retired special sub-inspector of police.

Police said Sundararaj, 63, after retiring from service, was working as the security guard of a church at Marthandam. When a stranger entered the church campus recently in the night, he stopped and questioned him.

Agitated over this, the stranger hit him with a club in which Sundararaj sustained head injury and was admitted to the hospital. Even as the police were investigating about this incident with the help of the CCTV footages, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, an unidentified person damaged a statue in another church at Thiruvattar and attacked the security guard there.

Since this incident triggered tension, police collected CCTV footages from the cameras installed near the church and found that one Ravi, 44, of Thiruvattar was involved in both the attacks. He was arrested on Saturday.
